2 Visit: Panteón de los Marqueses de Valdeflores
Antonio Rubio and Góngora de Armenta (1847-1924), VII Valdeflores Marquis was one of the major contributors of Cordoba in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The Marquess of Valdeflores was initially created by Carlos III in 1764. His heritage was founded basically on his land. His marriage to Maria de los Angeles Castillejo and Sanchez de Teruel, daughter of the Counts of Floridablanca, added new power and wealth to the House of Valdeflores, which had increased its patrimony during the process of Confiscation. Of strong Catholic beliefs, he assiduously practiced charity works. Although tied to traditionalism, unlike his father, Antonio Rubio y Velázquez de Velasco, who was provincial councillor and senator for life, among others, the seventh Marquis did not have the same importance in the public sphere, but as a whole Valdeflores was the Marquis of economic, social and political importance in Cordoba at the time.
